MEC Nombulelo Mabandla has announced recruitment of retired civil engineers, land and quantity surveyors, town planners, geo scientists and other built environment professionals who will mentor and provide hands on support to departmental professionals and technical personnel working on human settlements projects in the province. The retired professionals will be placed on various housing projects that are located at the various districts within the province.
Mabandla said the department is also looking into appointing building material supplier for human settlements contractors. Such appointment would ensure unlimited, uninterrupted supply of building material to all human settlements contractors in the province who are currently struggling to get material on other suppliers. She has also set a target of three thousand seven hundred units to be completed monthly as part of the recovery plan to meet the targets of 22 000 units at end of the financial year.
These interventions will ensure that the delivery targets of human settlements are met this current financial year.
