Lt Gen Binta offers commiseration following the loss of another member in Eastern Cape

The Eastern Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lt General Celiwe Binta yesterday relayed her condolences to the family and relatives of Const Xolisa Somana who was gunned down during a suspect search.

She visited the family in the company of Butterworth Cluster Commander, Brigadier Mzimasi Vukani, and Station Commander of Willowvale, where the member was stationed, Lt Col Zandisile Zikali and Centane Station Commander, Lt Col Nkosana Siqhola, and the members from surrounding stations.   

Lt General Binta urged the men and women in blue not to be distracted by the actions of the villains who are targeting police officers and not be discouraged by these barbaric acts. “We will soon be closing the space for them to ensure that our people in the province are safe”, she added.   

On Saturday, 7 July 2012, National Commissioner, General Phiyega and Lt General Binta together with Head Office delegation visited the family of W/O Mawethu Nelson Siganga, who was killed on duty last week at Ngqeleni to support the family of the Warrant Officer.

“I urged members of the public to assist with any information which might lead to the arrest of these scoundrels to contact the nearest police station or the Investigating Officer Col Sonwabiso Mboniswa on 082 043 7380 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111, said Lt General Celiwe Binta today.
