The Limpopo Youth Commission would like to take this opportunity and wish all learners and students well during their up coming examinations. With one week away from their final examination, as a Commission we would like to congratulate all grade 12 learners who have made it thus far and call upon them make us proud.
We continue to champion the prioritisation of education simply because youth development cannot be attained for as long as a majority of our youth is still leaving in apathy. Hence it remains important for learners and students to remain focused on their examination and to understand that education remains their only hope if they want to see development in their lives, communities and the country at large.
The Commission remains committed to the advancement of one of the priorities of the Millennium Development Goals and the South African Government, the call of ensuring that we ‘educate the African child’. As a result we have already ensured that key role players are engaged, processes are put in place and positive results are attainable by:
- Rolling out the ‘back to school campaign’ which will be launched next year in January,
- Meeting with various further education and training colleges, universities and other private institutions in addressing issues related to access.
- Meeting government departments, parastatals and the private sector to address issues relating to bursaries and the need for the less privileged to receive assistance.
We call upon learners to prepare comprehensively and ensure that they do final touch ups with their educators and study mates. We remain confident that despite few hiccups during the year the class of 2010 is going to make us proud. We say so because the department of education, parents and teachers have worked hard in ensuring that current learner generation becomes ready for the end of the year examinations.
In the same spirit of the FIFA World Cup we want to declare every Friday a Matric Friday until learners finish their exams. Learners, parents, school governing boards (SGBs) and the community at large are encouraged to put on their school uniform or anything that symbolises school on Fridays. We do so in showing our support to these learners and we encourage leaders, parents and the society at large to heed to this call.
