Limpopo Transport and Community Safety on Musina provincial traffic operation

The Department of Transport and Community Safety continues to intensify law enforcement operations to ensure the safety of all road users and compliance with transport regulations across the province.

During a recent Provincial Traffic Operation conducted in Musina, traffic officials successfully discontinued the operation of a bus travelling from Zimbabwe after it was found to be unroadworthy. The bus, which was transporting 51 passengers, was also operating illegally by conveying passengers for reward without a valid operating permit. The vehicle was subsequently impounded and the bus is currently being held at the Musina Traffic Control Centre (Weighbridge) for further investigation.

All passengers were safely assisted in securing alternative transport to continue with their journey, as they could not be allowed to proceed in an unsafe and illegal vehicle.

In addition, law enforcement officers impounded seven (7) sedan vehicles (commonly known as “4+1” or maxi taxis) over the past four days. These vehicles were found to be operating illegally by transporting passengers for reward without the required operating licences or permits.

The Department strongly warns all operators against illegal transport activities, which compromise passenger safety and undermine regulated public transport systems.

The Department has commended law enforcement officers for their vigilance and dedication in enforcing road safety laws, particularly during this high-traffic period.

The safety of passengers remains our top priority. All operators must comply with the law or face the full might of enforcement.

The Department urges all road users and public transport operators to adhere to road safety regulations and ensure that vehicles are roadworthy and properly licensed at all times.
