The Department of Roads and Transport calls upon the motorists to be cautions on the roads which was washed away by the heavy rain
The Department of Roads and Transport in Limpopo has noted that during the past week there has been a heavy rains which led to some of our roads been washed away. These resulted in those roads being partly and completely closed.
The affected roads and areas include:
- The road between Vaalwater and Lephalale.The road is still closed and we urge motorists to use R510 and or R518 when traveling to Lephalale.
- The road at Melkrivier that leads to Waterberg lodge has been closed because two culverts were washed away.
- D171 road which was heavily flooded may now be used as both lanes are now opened.
- The Strydon tunnel is operating on one lane, our team is busy attending to the matter to have both lanes operational.
- The Road at Nebo D1547 was partly cut off, however, our graveling team is working on the matter but did not complete as the rain was still heavily raining by Friday.
Our department team will continue to assess the extent of the damaged roads and will keep the pubic updated on the remedial measures. We urge all motorists to exercise extra caution and be on high alert when traveling on our roads during these rainy days.
