Limpopo Provincial Government on Post-Executive Council meeting

Post-Executive Council Meeting of January 2024 Statement

Following the recent Executive Council meeting on 31 January 2024, the Limpopo Provincial Government wishes to inform the public and stakeholders of key decisions and directives aimed at enhancing service provision and governance across the province:

Closure of SASSA Pay Points

The Executive Council noted the report on the impending closure of 219 SASSA pay points in the province by 31st March 2024.

As a result of this SASSA will engage various provincial structures on the roll out of Cash Pay Points (CPP). In addition, they will conduct beneficiary education campaigns at existing pay
points. They will provide information on closure of CPP and alternative access channels to clients. Beneficiaries will be redirected to ATMs and merchants for withdrawal of social grants. Help Desk officials deployed during payment cycle to advice beneficiaries on business with a point of sale devices as per the mapping report.

In response, a directive was issued for SASSA to compile and communicate a comprehensive list of alternative pay points to ensure that grant recipients continue to receive their grants without interruption. The importance of clear and sufficient communication to the affected communities was emphasised.

Transfer of 19 provincial roads to SANRAL

The Executive Council approved the transfer of nineteen (19) provincial roads to the South African National Roads Agency (SANRAL), marking a significant step towards improving road infrastructure in the province.

The Minister of Transport had requested all provinces to identify strategic roads that can be considered as National Roads and transferred to SANRAL. Limpopo responded by identifying nineteen (19) routes from the provincial network. The provincial routes are distributed across five districts, covering 1084,83 kilometres. These roads have been carefully selected based on specific criteria including proximity to national roads, road classification, traffic assessment, and economic activities related to mining, agriculture, and tourism.

Additionally, the Executive Council approved the Infrastructure Cluster Programme of Action and the Economic Sector Cluster Programme of Action reports for the second quarter of 2023/24.

The Limpopo Provincial Government remains dedicated to transparent governance, effective service provision, and the well-being of all its citizens. Further updates and details on these initiatives will be communicated through the province’s official channels.
