Limpopo government high-ranking officials, municipalities, state owned companies, public and private institutions came together to deliberate and make inputs to the Limpopo Development Plan. The aim of the Plan is to look at growth points and ensure sustainable development in the province.
The summit was held to ensure that Limpopo Development Plan (LDP) is aligned to the National Development Plan (NDP). The summit has adopted the NDP, which outlines strategic priorities and interventions to reduce unemployment, poverty and social inequalities. This comes after the Limpopo Growth and Development Plan Strategy that existed for five years (from 2009-2014) lapsed in March this year.
Premier Chupu Stanley Mathabatha told delegates that government aims to express the province's shared vision towards the future. "The LDP is our five year master plan. The main essence of this plan is to reduce poverty, fight unemployment and reduce the unacceptable levels of inequality. The LDP will be focusing on economic development and transformation, infrastructure development, building a developmental state as well as fostering social cohesion and transformation", said Premier Mathabatha.
He added that before the end of five years, the plan must be able to bear fruit. The newly crafted LDP will come to full operation in 2015 January after its approval by Limpopo Executive Council. The LD will be a catalyst for bringing massive change in the economy and development in the Province. The plan will form part of Premier Chupu Stanley Mathabatha annual State of the Province Address early next year.
The Summit deliberated and made valuable inputs. Delegates went into four commissions as follows: Industrializations and cluster development; social services and social cohesion; infrastructure development; and good governance and Institutional efficiency.
Commissions have deliberated on a number of issues that affect the functioning of government to deliver quality services at the same time bringing about radical changes in developing Limpopo to be a better place to live.
