Limpopo Legislature postpones sectoral parliaments and outreach programmes as result of Coronavirus COVID-19

Speaker Lerule-Ramakhanya postpones sectoral parliaments & outreach programmes of the legislature

The Speaker of Limpopo Legislature Hon. Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya has upon consultation taken a decision to postpone sectoral parliaments & outreach programmes of the Legislature.  These include but not limited to the “Taking the Legislature to the People” programme, which was planned for the 18th to the 20th March in the Mopani District of Limpopo.  Speaker Lerule-Ramakhanya further welcomes the clarion call made by the President of the Republic of South Africa, Hon. Cyril Ramaphosa in his address to the nation last night, 15th March, about measures put in place to combat COVID-19.  The South African government has since declared a national state of disaster in terms of the Disaster Management Act.

It is important for our institution to be alive to the realities of the Coronavirus Outbreak in the global space.

“As the Limpopo Legislature, we take the decision by the South African government, led by President Ramaphosa in dealing with this pandemic deeply serious.  We have taken this decision and other decisions that will be taken in response to the matter, because we value the health of the honourable members, the staff and the well-being of the people of Limpopo Province.  We would further like to call on all communities to take the Coronavirus Outbreak serious, because it is our current reality and not a pandemic to be disregarded.  We will continue to strengthen our support towards the government programmes for those who are infected and those who are to be tested for this virus.  We further salute the volunteers, brave men and women in our country, who continue to protect the citizens of Limpopo and the country at large,” said Lerule-Ramakhanya.
