The winter season is fast approaching and in an endeavour to prevent and minimise the effect of H1N1 influenza, the Limpopo Department of Health and Social Development will roll out a week long intensified immunisation campaign at all health facilities.
The MEC for Health and Social Development, Mme Dikeledi Magadzi says although the roll-out of the immunisation will target all people in the province, the focus will be on pregnant mothers and children as they are more vulnerable.
“We are appealing to all pregnant mothers to visit our health facilities for immunisation against H1N1 influenza. All our facilities are provided with H1N1 vaccines and we trust that mothers and children will be immunised to prevent the spread of influenza”, Magadzi said.
Magadzi also urges members of the community to take precautionary measures to protect themselves against influenza like disease saying people must cover the mouth and nose when sneezing; wash hands regularly and when exposed to the infection seek medical care immediately.
The following are known symptoms of flu:
- fever
- cough
- headache
- muscle and joint pains
- sore throat and runny nose
- vomiting and diarrhoea
