Health and Social Development MEC Dr Norman Mabasa declared operation clean-up during his service delivery inspection at Matlala Hospital in Tsimanyana Village this morning.
“According to the six health ministerial priorities, Cleanliness of our health institutions is a non-negotiable, and what we found here cannot go on any longer,” Mabasa pronounced a state of urgency to this operation saying that the hospital management must involve the community and other labour and civil organisations in the process.
“Cleanliness in hospitals cannot be taken lightly; it means more than just maintaining a clean and safe environment. It makes a statement to patients and visitors about the attitudes of staff and managers.” Following the MEC’s visit a team from the departments monitoring and evaluation unit will sit with management today to look at other interventions into challenges reported and these included, shortage of personnel, pharmaceuticals and infrastructure.
“Some of the challenges we found here do not necessarily require money and this is why our monitoring and evaluation team needs to sit down with management in this institution and provide a turnaround plan.”
Mabasa pointed out that the hospital needs to improve on the 24 hour provision of quality healthcare.
