Limpopo Education urges learners to refrain from “pens down parties”

The 2017 examinations are ending tomorrow, the 28th November, after several weeks of writing. The Limpopo Department of Education is pleased and satisfied with the manner in which the examinations ran and would like to thank all the stakeholders who worked with the department to administer an incident free examination. The department would like to urge all learners across the province not to associate the end of examinations with parties, known as “Pens Down Parties”. The call by the department is for learners to use their time wisely by reflecting on their academic journey and plot a proper way forward in as far as 2018 academic year is concerned.

These kinds of celebrations have a potential to be tragic in the end and learners must accordingly refrain from such activities as finishing Grade 12 must be seen as the beginning of a brighter future for any learner aspiring to be great in life. Parents on the other hand, are urged to discourage any participation by their children in these parties and to know at all given time where their children are. Various stakeholders, especially community members and leaders are also requested to play a parental role in discouraging such celebrations wherever they happen. “We want our learners to wait for the results of their hard work and we want them to also know that part of growing up include taking responsible decisions of self-restraint so that they nurture themselves into future leaders of communities across the province and the country. We want the results to find every learner in a good state of being and health” emphasised Education MEC, Ishmael Kgetjepe.
