On 5 October 2011, the Department of Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs (CoGHSTA)s, together with the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) in Limpopo, made an initiative once again to donate a house to another disadvantaged family at Ga-Chere village in Mogalakwena Municipality. The initiative stems from a long mutual agreement between the department of CoGHSTA and the SABC to rescue the needy families in villages around Limpopo province.
A three (3) bedroomed house was donated to the Mehale family after spending many years living in a one dilapidated roomed house and a shack. Depending on a social grant, Johanna Mehale, a mother of one child and five grandchildren has been struggling to make ends meet, since the spouse died a while ago.
Stephina Mehale, daughter of the beneficiary, said that she is very happy and delighted because the house was donated at a crucial time, and that resonates well with her mother’s sentiments “I’m very happy and would like to thank God, the Department of Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs and the SABC in Limpopo for giving me and my family a house” wept the 64 year old widow withjoy.
In his handing over address, the MEC of Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs Mr Soviet Lekganyane thanked the MASHRIK developer for their efficiency during the building of the house. “We as the government are mandated to provide excellent service to the community at large and also to help as many families as we can, we request that the community alert us should there be a family with similar crises in their immediate community”, pleaded Lekganyane during the public participation event speech at Ga-Chere.
