Limpopo scoops three National Extension and Advisory Services awards

Three Limpopo Extension officers, from Waterberg District, yesterday flew the provincial flag high by walking away with top honours at the 2nd National Extension and Advisory Awards ceremony at the Mabatho Convention Centre, Mahikeng, North West Province, this Tuesday, 20 November 2018.

The three Limpopo winners are Ms Rendani Murovhi for Best Agricultural Advisor, Mr Reuben Maakamedi for Best Agricultural Extension Supervisory Service and Ms Rose Tsamai for mentoring the 2018 national Female Commercial Farmer of the Year, Ms Pauline Dorcas Maleka who also won the provincial award in the same category.

Each award caries the prize value of R50 000.

Deputy Minister of the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Mr Sifiso Buthelezi, who presided over the awards ceremony also commended Agricultural Extension and Advisory officers in general and awards winners in particular for the good work they are doing for farmers.

The awards are in honour of the Extension and Advisory officers who have gone beyond the call of duty in ensuring that the farmers of the country get necessary support.

Congratulating the three winners, Limpopo Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (LDARD) MEC Basikopo Makamu extolled the virtues of Extension and Advisory officers to Agriculture and emerging farmers in particular. “Through the work of Extension and Advisory officers, the development of emerging farmers into the commercial mainstream is certain,” he indicated.

Soon, the MEC will meet with all Extension and Advisory officers in the employ of the LDARD to find ways to enhance their work in assisting farmers grow their production capacity and grow their ventures into commercially viable enterprises.
