Let's unite to make Gauteng a no-go province for child murderers, Mokonyane

The Gauteng Provincial Government has condemned the senseless murder of children in the province. This as the police discovered bodies of two little girls in two separate areas around the province this week. "What kind of people are we who devour our young so ruthlessly? What kind of a society are we who allow such acts of barbarity to occur in our midst?

It is time we, the government and communities, made his province a no-go area for child murderers and abusers. Someone in our communities knows the perpetrators of these despicable acts. We urge anyone who can assist bring those who committed these acts to call the police," Premier Nomvula Mokonyane said.

Mokonyane expressed the province's condolences to the families who had lost their loved ones in "such a gruesome manner and at such a tender age. "She said the government was deeply concerned about the levels of child abuse and murders that have taken place in and around Gauteng in recent weeks.

The GPG, through the Gauteng Department of Community Safety, will continue to undertake the provision of education and awareness programmes on crime prevention - more especially women and children abuse. Mokonyane called on those who witness child abuse to report it to the nearest law enforcement agency. "Just as the saying goes: ‘it takes a community to raise a child'; it also takes a community to protect a child," she said.
