In an effort to accelerate the delivery of quality health services to communities of the North West, the Department of Health has dispersed 19 new ambulances procured at a cost of R7 930 912.23. Six ambulances have been allocated to serve people of Bojanala District, which Lethabong falls under, five will service Dr. Kenneth Kaunda District with Ngaka Modiri Molema and Dr. Ruth Mompati District receiving four each.
The ambulances were distributed by MEC Dr. Magome Masike yesterday in Lethabong outside Rustenburg town. This is in addition to 53 ambulances distributed last year June.
The approach adopted by the department in distributing these vehicles across the province ensures compliance with the department’s resolve to place ambulances within accessible reach of the communities served.
Speaking at the handing over function held in Lethabong Community Hall on Tuesday, MEC Masike appealed to the ambulance drivers to take care of the vehicles and to community at large to make sure that they are utilised in a right manner.
“With these 19 ambulances we want to speed up the delivery of health services to our communities and also reduce the rate of maternal mortality and morbidity in our province. The new fleet will invaluably add to our patient transport efficiency, safety, reliability and further deepen our work in the province,” said MEC Masike.
In an interaction with community leaders and the clinic committee held at Lethabong Clinic, MEC Masike assured them that distribution of resources continues so that all the people enjoy a share. “As part of our Re-engineering of Primary Health Care programme in the province we have already started with the process of procuring equipments needed at Lethabong clinic.
The Public Works Department has done specifications for minor repairs needed at the clinic and awaiting the appointment of the service provider and as soon as the service provider has been appointed the work will start,” Masike said.
The Chairperson of Lethabong Clinic Committee, Mr. Paseka Getyes applauded MEC Masike for taking time to address their concerns. “You have shown leadership qualities and commitment to development. I hope administrators will do their job efficiently and act accordingly because of the example you have set,” said Getyes.
Community member, Joseph Mahube (40) welcomed MEC Masike’s presence and hoped that things will change for the better.
