Let us name and shame corrupt cops

The Gauteng MEC for Community Safety, Faith Mazibuko, read with distress the letter published in the Daily Sun of yesterday 28 August, page 14, who reportedly witness corrupt members of the South African Police Services who prey on victims to get their daily lunch of chicken dust from a street vendor in Westonaria. Surely this makes the community to lose trust in the police.

MEC Mazibuko appeals to any community members to take charge in rooting out these bad elements, by taking down their name as it is a requirement for police members to wear their name badges, or the details of the vehicle they are driving and provide that to the Department of Community. As the department mandated to deal with oversight over police, there is a dedicated unit responsible for complaints against police as ‘we cannot allow community members to live in fear and few members to tarnish the image of other committed and law abiding members of the South African Police Service,’ said MEC.

The South African Police Service is committed to deal decisively with corrupt members, and it is evident by the dismissal of over 1000 members by Ntate Mzwandile Petros for fraud and corruption since his tenure as the Provincial Commissioner.
