The Commission for Gender Equality (CGE) is calling on South Africans, united in their diversity to come together and commemorate the human rights day. This must be conducted in line with the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa. The Constitution as the supreme law promotes unity and human dignity by guaranteeing freedom of choice, equality and forbids any form of discrimination on inter alia grounds of race, creed, gender, sexual orientation or culture.
It is therefore incumbent upon us all irrespective of our background to ensure that we promote unity and human dignity. To promote the respect for the individual rights and freedom, the CGE invites the people of this Nation, across all the walks of life to exercise tolerance and refrain from the continual ostracizing of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgendered and Intersexed (LGBTI) people as this infringe on their constitutional rights, as enshrined in the Bill of Rights.
The commission will be joining other government departments and Chapter 9 institutions in exhibiting our work at Walter Sisulu Square tomorrow in Kliptown. We will also be offering free legal advice on site and taking in cases for follow-up for those that will be in attendance and visiting our stand.
