On Friday, 7 December 2012, The Department of Trade and Industry (the dti) published the Legal Metrology Bill for public comment.
The proposed new Legal Metrology Act will extend the scope beyond that of the current Trade Metrology Act (Act 77 of 1973) in terms of units of measurement, measuring instruments, methods of measurement and measurement results used in trade to also include measurements for health, safety and environmental purposes.
All comments on the Legal Metrology Bill can be directed in writing to ALotter@thedti.gov.za before 16h00 on 18 January 2013.
