Public servants and the community at large met this morning to launch Public Service Week at the Hammanskraal Community Hall.
PSW is an integral part of the ongoing Batho Pele Revitalisation strategy, which is aimed at rebuilding and instilling good ethics, morale and pride in public servants' endeavours to translate the people's contract into reality through the provision of quality services. PSW seeks to embrace integrated approaches to effectively utilise limited government resources for improved service delivery results. The theme for this year is Delivery of Quality Service for Sustainable Development.
Speaking at the launch, the Director-General for Public Service and Administration, Professor Richard Levin, stressed the need to get senior managers out of their offices and into the community. Professor Levin elaborated, "We are here to wake up the public service. The fire that wakes us up is the election manifesto of the ruling party. It is up to us as public servants to translate the manifesto into implementable policy.
Public service week is one of those events where we need to reflect on the mandate that we need to carry, a mandate that is described in the manifesto. All our people need to benefit and be able to access the benefits of the public service. We need to ensure that we have the necessary skills to deliver these services. In this week we need to make sure that senior managers are able to go to deliver services through the Khaedu project."
The main objectives of the Public Service Week are to:
* facilitate access to public services by the general public.
* enhance the quality and efficiency of public service delivery.
* ensure multi-skilling of public service cadres at all layers.
* ensure that senior managers are deployed to service delivery points to assist, identify and give possible solutions to administrative problems.
