Last day to register children in public schools for 2014

Tuesday, 21 May, marks the last day for parents to register their children in public schools in and around Gauteng for the 2014 academic year.

The department wishes to thank parents who heeded the call to register their children during the period which started on 17 April 2013. The department urges all parents who have not yet registered their children to do so before the closing date tomorrow.

The department will from the 15 to 26 July send out letters to parents informing them of the outcome of their applications. Parents will be given a period of seven school days after receiving these letters to accept or reject placement.

Completing the admissions process in the second term will ensure that our schools are ready to operate from day one of the 2014 schooling year, and that we are able to meet our constitutional obligation of equity and access to public schools.

When we know the number of learners coming to schools in 2014, we will be able to prepare early for school infrastructure, learner and teacher support material and furniture. Schools will have sufficient time to prepare timetables, recruit teachers, and where necessary, arrange nutrition and scholar transport.
