Department of Labour wraps up “taking services to communities” campaign in Bojanala Platinum District

The Director General, Thobile Lamati’s two weeks long community outreach campaign dubbed “taking Department of Labour Services to communities” wrapped up at the Platinum District in the North West on Saturday, 25 August.

This initiative was part of the office of the Director General’s mission to speed up service delivery and engage different stakeholders to get an understanding of the challenges they encounter when dealing with the Department and also map up the way forward concluded in Rustenburg in a well attended event.

During the two weeks, a number of activities such as stakeholder engagement meetings, registration of work seekers on the Employment Services of South Africa (ESSA) database, applications for Unemployment Insurance fund (UIF) and Compensation Fund (CF), as well as Blitz inspections were successfully executed.

Though service delivery to the people was the key for the drive, the Director General, Thobile Lamati, used the opportunity to also engage the employers in the area to discuss and map out a way forward in terms of trying to preserve and increase job opportunities and productivity in the area.

Speaking at the employer engagement session Lamati said “As the Department we will always be available to work with all the parties involved to make sure that job opportunities are availed and people get decent jobs and salaries”.

Lamati wrapped up the two weeks long activities with an engagement with organised labour where a number of challenges were raised and possible solutions agreed to.

The campaign was done in partnership with the Rustenburg Local Municipality, South African Police Services, different government Departments in the province and local bank institutions.
