The Minister of Labour, Mrs Mildred Oliphant today officially introduced the new Deputy Minister, Inkosi Phathekile Holomisa to the top management of the Department of Labour.
The Minister recommitted the department to do all that it can to ensure that vulnerable workers like farmworkers and domestic workers have improved working conditions and benefits.
“Our commitment which we derive from the ANC Manifesto, the Freedom Charter and the National Development Plan enjoins us to do our best for the vulnerable members of our society. That is what a humane society does. In the next five years, the department will ensure that the changes to the legislation which seek to improve the lives of workers are implemented speedily,” she said.
The Deputy Minister, the first for the department, has committed to work closely with the Minister and the department and will also bring a wealth of experience from interactions with rural communities as head of traditional leaders.
