Minister of Labor, Nelisiwe Mildred Oliphant, MP, alongside a string of delegations from the International Labour Organisation (ILO), Organised Business, Civil Society and Organised Labour will be visiting the Limpopo Province, Mopani District Municipality on 19 July 2012 to highlight the fight against child labour.
The Minister is scheduled to address school children from neighboring farms, teachers and their parents; thereafter address the aforementioned delegations on matters pertaining to child labour. Under the theme: “Let me be a child” - the meeting is aimed at educating these stakeholders about the plight of child labour practices and also proposes ways to arrest the situation.
As per the country’s constitution child labour is described at work by children under 18 which is exploitative, hazardous or otherwise inappropriate for their age, detrimental to their schooling, their social, physical, mental, spiritual or moral development.
