Labour Minister calls for speeding up of amendments to labour legislation


The minister of Labour Mildred Oliphant has requested the the National Economic Development and Labour Council (Nedlac) social partners to speed up the process of amending labour legislation in view of the fact that there was an expectation that this process would be finished by the end of this year. Oliphant, as per her mandate, asked the parties to speed up the process. The Bills were released in December last year.

The Bills include the Labour Relations Act, Basic Conditions of Employment Act, Employment Equity as well as the Public Employment Services Bill. The Bills are currently at a delicate stage at Nedlac, an institution for social dialogue composed of business, government, labour and community.
