Labour on Compensation Fund breakfast session

The Compensation Fund is getting user friendly- Commissioner Mafata tells stakeholders

The Compensation Fund (CF) Commissioner, Vuyo Mafata, told stakeholders that the Fund is not where it was two to three years ago and it is not yet where it wants to be. Three years ago CF services were centralised in Pretoria (Head office) where documents had to be recaptured again and it was taking long time and also creating backlog.

At the moment out of 126 Labour Centres, a total of 33 are able to provide the services online.

The commissioner was addressing stakeholders at a breakfast session held at the Windmill Casino in Bloemfontein on Friday 3 November 2017.

The session, which was held in partnership with the Mangaung Chamber of Business, was intended to engage and strengthen relations between the Fund and employers, medical service providers as well as employees. This was as a result of several disappointments these stakeholders had with the services of the Fund.

“We need each other. This is a reach out to our stakeholders”, Mafata said.

Mafata told the session that some of the problems were created by the systems that were used which were prone to fraud and manipulation as well as creating more workload and backlog. He said a new system is under way which will address some of the issues that were creating challenges in previous systems. He told the gathering that the new system will be introduced on December 1 2017.

The Commissioner also hinted the session on legislative and policy changes that are underway. He told the session that the amendments are currently being discussed at the National Economic Development and Labour Council (NEDLAC).

In his presentation, the Commissioner highlighted the Fund’s vision being to be a world class provider of sustainable compensation for occupational injuries and diseases, rehabilitation and reintegration services.

The session comes after a similar one which was held in Cape Town on September 29. Another is planned for the December 1 also in Cape Town where he is expected to meet with the South Africa Institute of Chattered accountants.
