Compensation Fund clients reap benefits of ICT investment
The Compensation Fund’s (CF) ICT journey has delivered instant results and turnaround in terms of processing of claims and elimination of backlogs, stakeholders were told in Mbombela, Mpumalanga, on Wednesday.
Addressing dozens of stakeholders at a business breakfast with the Kruger Lowveld Chamber of Business and Tourism, Vuyo Mafata, CF Commissioner, said the ICT journey was brought about by challenges such as:
- High dependence on manual process within claims
- Inefficiencies that contributed to inefficient controls
- High exposure to fraud, resulting in huge backlogs
“Investment in technology has allowed the Fund to pay claims faster and enabled employers to register with the Fund within an hour,” he said.
Precious Mdlokovana, Deputy Director, Information Technology, said the Fund has developed a new system called CF-Filing, specifically designed to create a seamless process from employer registration to receiving a Letter of Good Standing (LOGS).
The system will also improve the employer registration process by converting the manual process into an electronic process and allowing employers to register on the website. In addition the system will offer the following benefits:
- Optimise the turnaround time for employer registrations
- Provide an additional means for employers to electronically pay their contributions to CF upon receipt of an RoE assessment
- Enable employer verification by allowing employers to update their details
- Obtain Letter of Good Standing online immediately after completion of payments
- Establishment of dedicated Call Centre competency to handle CF-Filing related queries.
Turning to challenges to the policy and the legislative environment, Mafata said these include amendment to the COID such as Section 1, which aims to increase social security coverage through the removal of the express exclusion of domestic workers as employees.
Another crucial amendment is the introduction of a multi-disciplinary rehabilitation, reintegration and return - to - work programme.
“Employers will be incentivised for compliance by way of discounts on their annual assessments,” he said.
The Fund’s next session is to be held in eMalahleni, Mpumalanga, at which the officials will interact with medical service providers.
