Department of Labour Data Centre relocation
The Department of Labour proudly announces the successful relocation of its datacentre to a Tier 4 facility in Midrand.
The relocation was undertaken from the evening of Wednesday 20 February 2019 to Sunday 24 February 2019. The project was successfully completed within the scheduled timeframe.
A number of incidents have emerged during the relocation. However, the Department’s ICT anticipated this and addressed each issue promptly. This was possible through detailed planning, multiple layers of risk mitigations, ensuring that partners were involved at all levels, and experts were secured and on standby to address all possibilities.
The project is currently in a stabilisation phase where minor issues are being addressed. This is anticipated in any project of this magnitude and the Department has a dedicated team appointed to address these issues. While all production applications are available, there are minor glitches that could be experienced wherein some functionality is not available in the affected applications. This could result in a disruption of efficient services to the citizens.
The Department would like to assure the public that every effort is being made to limit such disruptions.
