The Gauteng Department of Health and Social Development would like to inform the public that laboratory services are functional at public health facilities.
The National Health Laboratory Services (NHLS) has started restoring services at laboratories that they closed last week.
Since March 2011, NHLS received payments of more than R1billion in line with our commitment to ensure the provision of quality health care to the people of Gauteng.
The Department expects all laboratories to be operational by the end of the week.
This week, the Gauteng Provincial team will initiate a process of negotiating with individual service providers around the payment plans towards redeeming debt owed to suppliers.
We would like to reiterate that the department is fully aware and committed to meeting all its past and future obligations to its suppliers
