Wanting to embrace change, staff from all occupational levels in KwaZulu-Natal province seized the opportunity to give their opinions and views about a project that they believe is to bring hope in revitalising the Department of Labour countrywide over the last two days.
Meaning change, Project Shanduka saw its second round of consultation in Durban and Pietermaritzburg led by the Director-General, Nkosinathi Nhleko and his top management team and attended by all levels of staff.
The project is aimed at looking at organisational review and decentralisation of functions to provinces to address misalignment at all levels in a scientific manner.
Calling for change in ICT systems, organisational structure, improved working conditions like salary upgrades, more resources like tools of trade, staff were encouraged by the feedback given by the DG about progress made to implement the project.
Nhleko said he is happy about the proposed changes as they will result in high staff morale and improved service delivery in all various services given by the department. He said the integral part of the whole exercise is communication from all levels so that the frustrations and challenges are tackled as soon as possible.
Lerato Molebatsi, Deputy Director-General: Corporate Services in the department embraced the project and vowed to help where necessary to see it succeeding.
She urged staff members to make use of various communication channels such as twitter, facebook and email to air their views on what best can be done to see the department performing to its maximum capacity.
“Shanduka is about us leaving an indelible mark and creating a legacy for the next generation to come and plough on,” she said.
The DG and his management will proceed with their tour to other provinces, with the next stop being in Western Cape on 13 and 14 February 2013.
