Kroondal taxi accident death toll rises to four

The death toll of the accident involving a taxi that overturned on the N4 Bakwena Platinum Highway near Kroondal at around 16h00 on Thursday has risen to four.

One of the 15 passengers who were injured died while the passengers including the driver were being taken by paramedics to Job Shimankana Tabane Hospital while three died at the hospital in the evening after admission.

A tyre burst is alleged to have caused the taxi driver who was driving from Brits to Rustenburg to lose control of the vehicle which overturned about 10 kilometres outside Rustenburg. Police are investigating cases of culpable homicide.

North West MEC for Public Safety, Howard Yawa who launched the Speed to Easter Arrive on Thursday wishes to convey his condolences to the families of those who died in the accident and wish those who are recuperating in hospital a speedy recovery.

Maenwhile, in anticipation of heavy traffic this afternoon due to closure of schools in the province, MEC Yawa advises motorists to undertake pre-trip inspections on their vehicles before embarking on their holiday trips.
