The Acting National Commissioner of Correctional Services, Mr Zach Modise, has appointed an internationally acclaimed audit company – KPMG to conduct a forensic investigation into the recently awarded electronic monitoring bid of the department.
Mr Modise made the announcement today, 22 July 2014, at the extended NatManCo strategic planning session held in Valley Lodge in Gauteng. KPMG started with their forensic investigation yesterday.
The extended National Management Committee (NatManco) composed of the Chief Operations Officer, Chief Deputy Commissioners, Regional Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner from across the country, is having a three day strategic planning session that started on Monday and will end of Wednesday this week. The appointment of KPMG is one of the steps taken to implement Justice and Correctional Services Minister, Advocate Michael Masutha’s commitment to ensure good and clean governance in Correctional Services.
KPMG is expected to conclude the forensic investigation to determine if there was substance or not in the allegations that the bid process may have been interfered with. The leadership of the department of Correctional Services will decide on an appropriate course of action on the matter after studying the KPMG report.
Acting National Commissioner Modise said the roll out of the electronic monitoring programme will continue as scheduled. He urged all managers, officials and stakeholders to cooperate with KPMG for the investigation to be concluded without delay.
