Klerksdorp crime syndicate arrested

Eleven suspects including two senior policemen stationed at Wolmaranstad police station were arrested by the North West provincial organised crime task team for a spate of break-ins into banks and business premises in Ventersdorp, Orkney, Christiana and Wolmaranstad on Thursday.

The captain and inspector both stationed at Wolmaranstad police station are alleged to have escorted members of the syndicate to and from targeted banks and businesses at night and in the event alarms went off during break-ins. They would be nearby to mislead whoever responds to the alarm into believing that it was a false alarm.

The suspects most of whom are from Klerksdorp are linked to fifteen bank and business breakings in robberies in the Dr Kenneth Kaunda District Municipality area.

North West MEC for Public Safety, Howard Yawa commends the task team for the breakthrough in the investigations. Three vehicles, a BMW X5, Golf 3 and Audi A4, 317 cellular phones valued at over R150 000,furnisher and an undisclosed amount of cash were confiscated during the arrest of the suspects.

“There is no place in the police service for those who hunt with the hounds and run with the hares. We are determined to get to the core of the rot in order to flush it out. Our national effort to win the war against crime cannot be compromised by scoundrels whose days within the police service are numbered,” says MEC Yawa.
