Kei Rail enjoys 58% growth in December

The festive season gave a major boost in the Kei Rail passenger volumes, which resulted into a 58% growth through the sale of 12 993 tickets between Mthatha and AmaBhele.

This is the most significant growth since the re-introduction of the daily passenger service compared to the previous six months average (June to November).

With only seven months since its re-introduction, the Kei Rail daily passenger service has already transported a total of 62 366 passengers by the end of December 2011, which resulted into the achievement of a revenue of R102,352.60 for tickets sold at R30 per trip.

On 19 December 2011, a record 1 037 passengers were transported.

“The market demand is there! The passenger volumes clearly show that we took a right decision to get this service back on track,” says Transport MEC Thandiswa Marawu.
