This will become evident when the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development officially converts Stilfontein and Orkney branch Courts into full Service Courts with effect from 15 May 2013.

The Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development, Mr Jeff Radebe has re-designated the following branch courts as full service courts with effect from 15 May 2013. Previously, these courts only deal with criminal cases. “Bringing Full Court Services to Communities.”

In North West province Branch Courts to be Re designated are Stilfontein and Orkney. Re-demarcation process is intended at ensuring access to Justice Services, all the Courts should be self sufficient to render all the services and community members will no longer have to travel long distances to access Justice Services.

“These Courts will now deal with the following cases, Small Claims, Deceased Estates, Criminal Trials, Equality, Domestic Violence, and Maintenance.   Community members had to travel to Potchefstroom and Klerksdorp Courts to receive such services , this was a burden on some of the people since majority are unemployed, some were even forced to walk or get lifts,” said  Adv Bonolo Madiba Project Manager Re-demarcation of Magisterial  Boundaries.

“We are committed as the department of Justice and Constitutional Development to bring services closer to our community; we encouraged Community Members to utilise these Courts profitably and take ownership,” concluded Acting Regional Head Mr Joseph Makutle.
