Justice on FBI’s investigation on 2010 FIFA Soccer World Cup

Justice has not received any request from FBI on 2010 FIFA Soccer World Cup investigation

FBI has not submitted any request to Justice Department on 2010 FIFA Soccer World Cup investigation.

The Department of Justice and Constitutional Development has not received any request for Mutual Legal Assistance from the United States of America’s Federal Bureau of Investigation in respect of their investigation into 2010 FIFA Soccer World Cup.

In June 2015, the USA’s Legal Attache’ merely sent a copy of their indictment with a covering letter wherein they were bringing to our attention the contents thereof and looking forward to a continued partnership with our Department as we have a bilateral relations on such matters.

This indictment had been made public was easily available on the internet for public consumption, this was after the USA Attorney General held a press conference on the matter. There is therefore no request for Mutual Legal Assistance or new communication between our department as the central authority and the Legal Attache’ in respect of this matter.

Minister Masutha was merely responding to a parliamentary question on the matter wherein he stated the above position. Any reports of a request to Justice for assistance with the investigation on the matter are therefore inaccurate.
