The world celebrates Universal Children`s Day today, it was declared by the United Nations General Assembly recommendation in 1954 (resolution 836-IX). The global society is encouraged to honuor and celebrate the day by promoting the welfare of the world's children. The Department of Justice and Constitutional Development North West Region as custodians and advocates for Children`s rights, will today reach out to four Early Learning Centres to conduct education and awareness campaign on Children`s Rights. This is also the department`s Setsokotsane intervention plan that is Ngaka Modiri Molema District Municipality, gearing itself to leave no stone unturned in Mahikeng Local Municipality.
The Directorate Legal Service commissioned its personnel to Go Ata ELC at Dihatshwane, Orchard Africa ELC at Moshawane, O Biditse ELC at Masutlhe 2 and Karabo and Rea ELC at Mantja, all in the remote areas of Mahikeng. The chosen centres are in line with the pronouncement of Premier of Bokone Bophirima Supra Mahumapelo of reaching out to rural communities. The Department of Justice and Constitutional Development partnered with the Department of Social Development Early Childhood Development Programme to respond to this noble call of caring and protecting Children`s Rights. “We are delighted to work with DOJ in advancing interests of children from early stages, said Martha Paadi from Social Development.
“We will be playing with kids and entertaining them through games as a gesture of compassion and adoration. As much as we will be educating kids about their rights, we deemed it necessary to interact in a jovial and relaxed mood with them. My colleagues are geared and thrilled to reach out to kids and share with them”, said Motshabi Setlhako-Madiehe, Director Legal Services. According to Tsholofelo Mosidi Legal Admin Officer in the DOJ, she says it is their responsibility as the department to reach out to vulnerable groups and everyone to ensure the protection of human rights and taking access to justice to communities.
The Department of Justice and Constitutional Development prides itself by taking the interest of Children with heart and earnest consideration as this year only, have visited learners at Tlhabane Primary School in Rustenburg during Child Protection Week, visited and donated educational material with Minister Michael Masutha during the opening of Sexual Offences Court in Mamusa and also donated crèche requirements at two early learning centres respectively at Top Village in Mahikeng during Mandela Month. “Children are the future of our country and it is imperative that we invest in them from foundation stage, in so doing, we are confident that we are nurturing responsible and patriot leaders”, said Joseph Makutle, Acting Regional Head.
The department also planned Maintenance and Estate outreach on December 04, 2015 at Rustenburg, Children`s Act Outreach also during December 2015 including also awareness campaign on Harassment during 16 Days of No Violence against Women and Children.
