Jeremy Cronin is the Deputy Minister of Public Works Department

The Public Works Department has a Deputy Minister, Mr Jeremy Cronin, after over seven months without a Deputy. This comes after President Jacob Zuma announced changes to the national executive on 12 June 2012.

Announcing the changes, President Zuma said positions became vacant in the Cabinet following the untimely death of Public Service and Administration Minister Roy Padayachie, the resignation of former Deputy Minister of Economic Development Mr Enoch Godongwana and the transfer of former Deputy Minister of Public Works, Ms Henrietta Bogopane-Zulu to the Ministry for Women, Children and Persons with Disabilities.

Bogopane-Zulu left the Public Works Department in October 2011, together with the then Public Works Minister Gwen Mahlangu-Nkabinde following a cabinet reshuffle that saw the department getting a new Minister, Mr Thulas Nxesi.

Deputy Minister Cronin previously held the position of Deputy Minister of Transport. He is also the member of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the African National Congress (ANC), the Deputy General-Secretary of the South African Communist Party and a member of the African National Congress (ANC) in Parliament.
