The 018 381 6500 call centre of the North West Department of Public Safety is inundated with calls from all over the country enquiring about outstanding traffic fines following intensified province wide operations to serve 65 000 warrants of arrest on motorists with outstanding traffic fines to the value of R12 million. The special unit for execution of warrants of arrests nicknamed jaws arrested 120 motorists at roadblocks around Rustenburg on Wednesday.
Last week the unit recouped R275 108 after arresting 622 motorists for outstanding traffic fines in Bojanala District. Six hundred of the motorists were arrested around Rustenburg. In Brits, the unit arrested 22 motorists and recouped R32 810.
Bojanala District has the highest warrants of arrests that need to be served on motorist for outstanding traffic fines, i.e. 43 145 warrants followed by Dr Kenneth Kaunda District with 8 441. Ngaka Modiri Molema District has 9 182 while Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati District has 4 232.
North West MEC for Public Safety, Howard Yawa urges motorists to settle their outstanding traffic fines for them to travel without the fear of being arrested during the festive season as roadblocks are being intensified in an effort to reduce fatalities and crashes on all roads in the province.
