North West traffic officers have impounded 10 Toyota Avanza’s in Mahikeng for illegal transportation during the jaws special operations around the Ngaka Modiri Molema District since this weekend.
Traffic authorities further managed to recover more than R17 000 outstanding traffic fines from defaulting motorists during operation. A total of 32 warrants were executed and solved during the operations which are aimed at collecting the outstanding traffic fines from defaulters, mostly targeting those that have warrants of arrest.
In ensuring compliance of drivers and vehicles on the road, authorities have issued about 35 traffic fines worth more than R16 000 to defaulting motorists for offenses ranging from driving without drivers license, unroadworthy vehicles, safety belt, wrong routs and tyres. About four vehicles were discontinued from the road due to unroadworthiness.
North West MEC for Human Settlements, Public Safety and Liaison, Nono Maloyi send a warning to those with unroadworthy vehicles to stop endangering innocent lives and further encourage motorists to visit their nearest provincial traffic offices and check if they have an outstanding traffic fines and pay.
He said the jaws operations will continue collecting outstanding fines across the province.
