Involvement of police in crime undermines public confidence in law enforcement - Premier Modise

The involvement of police in crime undermines the confidence that the public has on law enforcement therefore everything should be done to uproot elements within the police service involved in crime, North West Premier Thandi Modise said in condemning the alleged involvement of a police officer in kidnapping, assault and robbery in Taung.

Premier Modise who had a day earlier called on communities to work closer with the police to intensify crime prevention efforts expressed disappointment that one of the three suspects arrested in connection with the alleged crime is a woman police constable.

“There should be no place in the police service for those who disgrace the dignified blue uniform, those who terrorise our communities instead of protecting them” stressed Modise.

According to police, a man from Lokgabeng village claimed that three intruders woke him up from his sleep on Saturday night, tied up his hands and put him in a car and drove off with him and assaulted him after accusing him of having stolen their property.

The victim reportedly told police that the suspects pulled his private parts and urinated on him before robbing him of his cellular phone and a cash.

The arrested trio, a woman constable, a man and a woman would appear in the Taung Maguistrate”s Court on Tuesday.
