Invitation for permit applications to export agricultural products to the European market

All exporters and potential exporters interested in exporting during the calendar year (1 January to 31 December 2012), any of these products: cheese, cut flowers, frozen strawberries, canned fruit (pears, apricots and peaches), frozen orange juice, pineapple juice, apple juice, white and red wine are invited to apply for export permits.

These products will be issued at reduced levels of duty into the European Community (EC) market as stipulated in the Schedule (as published in Government Gazette No.34602 of 16 September 2011, Notice No.724 of 2011 and also available on the department’s website: http//www.daff.gov.za/ under publications, are hereby invited to submit their applications on or before 15 October 2011 in accordance with the prescribed procedures.

As part of the concession provided under the Trade Development and Cooperation Agreement (TDCA), the EC has agreed to grant tariff preferences on limited quantities of selected products in the form of tariff quotas. Export permit will be issued only to registered exporters in South Africa for exportation to specific European countries.

This (TDCA) between the European Community (EC) and the Republic of South Africa has been established and entered into force on 1 January 2000. The agreement provides for the establishment of a Free Trade Area between the EC and South Africa in accordance with the World Trade Organisation (WTO) rules and the strengthening of European development assistance to South Africa.
