Interprovincial co-ordinated operations: police arrest two hundred and twenty-nine

Two hundred and twenty nine suspects were arrested for various crimes during interprovincial co-ordinated operations conducted by officers from Limpopo, North West, Mpumalanga and Gauteng from last night at 18h00 until this morning at 6h00. Four firearms, drugs valued at approximately R500 000, dagga with a street value of R200 000, diamonds worth R300 000, 200 tyres worth R640 000 and three suspected stolen vehicles were confiscated.

Police have embarked on these operations as a clean-up for the festive season. Although festive season operations have not yet been officially launched, criminals are warned that the show has already begun. Members of the South African Police, Metro Police office officers, Traffic Departments and other law enforcement agencies have combined their forces to deal with all criminal activities and other offences including traffic violations.

Roadblocks were conducted in Musina, Burgersfort, Phalaborwa, Moloto Road, N1 and R101 at Matsole, Northam, Assen, Benoni, Springs, Ga Rankuwa, Temba, Bronkhorstspruit, Carltonville, Vereeniging, Honeydew and Krugersdorp. During the search of more than thousand vehicles, two hundred and twenty nine suspects were arrested. Other goods seized included 25 cartons of cigarettes, counterfeit notes (R2 300), four bicycles, fake passports and counterfeit DVDS.

Operations are continuing and police are also appealing to the members of the public to co-operate during the roadblocks and stop and search operations.
