Inquest to determine Piet Plessis farm worker’s death assures MEC Yawa

Inquest to determine Piet Plessis farm worker’s death assures MEC Yawa North West MEC for Public Safety; Howard Yawa on Sunday confirmed that in keeping with constitutional provision for the protection of human rights of all citizens, North West police have registered an inquest docket for an investigation into the cause of the death of a 25 years old farm worker, Joseph Dikabelo Jansen.

Jansen who was employed as a horse trainer by Piet Plessis farmer, Jacque Fourie was certified dead on arrival at Ganyesa Provincial Hospital on Thursday after allegedly being kicked by a horse during training at around 11h00. A fellow employee who was with him at the time of the incident allegedly summoned his employer to the scene and both rushed him to hospital.

MEC Yawa says that the outcome of the post-mortem will determine as to whether there is merit in the allegations which have emerged that Jansen was actually beaten to death by his employer and not kicked by a horse. Yawa wishes to convey his condolences to the Jansen family and appeals for the family to be given the necessary support to cope with the loss of their loved one. He appeals for police investigations to be given a chance before emotions are prematurely heightened to suggest that the case involves abuse of human rights of farm workers or racism.
