Info Bill Ad Hoc committee tables report

The National Council of Provinces' Ad Hoc Committee on the Protection of State Information Bill today met and tabled a consolidated report on the intensive public participation process regarding the proposed law.

The report includes oral public hearings which were held in all nine provinces and public hearings (various interest groups) in Parliament.

The ad hoc committee could not adopt the report today due to two reasons. Members of the committee need time to familiarise themselves with the report and properly read it. There are also some grammatical errors in the report that have to be corrected. The committee is expected to adopt the report on Tuesday, 8 May 2012.

The ad hoc committee remains committed to meeting the reporting deadline of 17 May 2012 to the National Council of Provinces. As such, the ad hoc committee will meet from Tuesday until Friday, 11 May 2012 to start clause-by-clause deliberations on the bill.
