Info Bill Ad Hoc Committee disappointed at AIDC's presentation

The Ad Hoc Committee on the Protection of State Information Bill wishes to express its disappointment at the oral submission made by the Alternative Information Development Centre (AIDC) during the public hearings in Parliament today.

The AIDC’s oral presentation focused more on political ideologies and political landscape of South Africa instead of issues related to the Bill. All organisations and institutions that have appeared before the Committee so far have been specific to areas of the Bill which they wish the Committee to focus on.

The AIDC was shortlisted with other 17 organisations from 263 written submissions to make oral submissions to the ad hoc Committee dealing with the Protection of State Information Bill.

After consultation with the presenter Mr Mark Weinberg on his areas of focus in the Bill and after discussion among the members of the Committee, a decision was reached not to allow Mr Weinberg to continue with the presentation.

The Committee welcomes and appreciates all relevant oral presentations that have been made to the Committee as they will assist Committee members in their deliberations.
