Independent Police Investigative Directorate on sentencing of former police constable

Former police constable sentenced to 25 years imprisonment for the murder of his girlfriend.

The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) in Gauteng has investigated murder against a members of SAPS attached to Ekurhuleni District Tracing Unit.

On the 09 February 2022 at 09:00 a 31-year-old Constable Mulalo Lucky Mudau took a marked police vehicle and went Tembisa Hospital where his Girlfriend a 31-year-old Lebogang Monene was employed as a Nurse.

Mudau then fatally shot Monene after they argued outside the hospital and thereafter turned the gun on himself. Monene was declared dead at the scene while Mudau was airlifted to Millpark clinic with a bullet wound on the cheeck.

Mudau has since been charged with the Murder of Monene and he pleaded guilty to Murder on 17 April 2023 and he was sentenced to 25-year imprisonment wholly suspended for 5 years due to his current medical condition on 29 June 2023 at the South Gauteng High Court.
