The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) is investigating a shooting incident that took place in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga on 11 April 2012 at about 13h00. The deceased is 26 year old Vusi Mlambo.
It is alleged that the deceased was wanted for a case of housebreaking. The police and security guards were chasing after him and the involved member shot him while running. He was then taken to Rob Ferreira Hospital where he later died at 15h45.
The IPID was notified at 18h00 – it is not clear why there was a delay in notifying the IPID as required by Section 29(1) of the Independent Police Investigative Directorate Act, Act No. 1 of 2011.
A murder case has been registered as per Nelspruit Case: 275/04/2012. No arrests have been made at this stage. The investigation continues.
