Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) continues Youth Voter Education programme

The Independent Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) and the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) education department have partnered with the Department of Higher Education and Training to commit to continuous civic and democracy education and to promote issues around democracy and elections for youth.

In the form of university road shows, the partners hope to mobilise students into participating in Student Representative Council (SRC) elections and student leadership.

The first roadshow is scheduled for the Bellville campus at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology on Tuesday, 6 October 2009. The second stop is the Kwadlangezwa campus of the University of Zululand on Tuesday, 13 October and lastly for 2009, the Soshanguve campus of the Tshwane University of Technology towards the end of October.

The television talk show; Shift, will broadcast live on 6 October at the Bellville campus between 13h00 and 14h00. The road shows with dynamic appeal to young people will include various youth discussions, live radio crossings and entertainment by Hip Hop Pantsula (HHP), Slikour, Sugarsmakx, L’vovo and local artists in the region.
