Recent reports alleging that the Independent Complaints Directorate (ICD) has dropped its investigation of allegations levelled against the Free State Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service are false. Also, reports that the ICD team led by Mr Tommy Tshabalala visited Commissioner Mashigo to apologise are false. The reason Mr Tshabalala went to see Commissioner Mashigo was to conduct the investigation in question. The ICD will never apologise for doing what it was established for, namely, to investigate allegations of criminality and misconduct against members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) and Municipal Police Services (MPS).
Furthermore, reports that the ICD is part of a conspiracy to oust Commissioner Mashigo are false; the ICD has nothing to gain from the ousting of Mashigo. Accordingly, the ICD’s investigation continues and there are no grounds to drop the investigation at this stage.
