Independent Complaints Directorate monitors Knysna rape case

The Independent Complaints Directorate (ICD) is monitoring a case of rape that allegedly occurred in Knysna on 7 February 2010 at about 01h00.

The 32 year old victim was walking from a birthday party alone in a dark and quiet area. She allegedly saw a police van with two policemen inside and asked them for a lift to her place of residence. They allegedly both grabbed her and the passenger raped her. She managed to pull away and ran to friend's house.

The friend took her to hospital and the hospital called the South African Police Service (SAPS) to open a docket. The SAPS responded immediately and Cas 239/02/2010 was opened. The Independent Complaints Directorate was informed on 7 February 2009 around 16h00. Some statements have already been obtained, and the medical and forensic investigation has also been done.

George Family Children Sexual Offences unit (FCS) is investigating and is in constant communication with the Independent Complaints Directorate regarding their progress. An identity (ID) parade is in the process of being arranged. The Independent Complaints Directorate is currently monitoring progress of this investigation.
